In the Beginning Argentine Tango Class you learn the basics of dancing the Argentine tango.
Strangely, Argentine tango is both one of the most difficult and one of the easiest dances. In this class, you learn the easy version.
What makes tango easy is that you can go as slow as you like. In other dances, you have to train your body to keep a rhythm that is faster than thinking. In tango, you can take as much time as you need to take each step. You will be dancing the first day.
This is a progressive class starting at the beginning. You learn how to walk with a partner around the room to tango music. You learn the basics of leading and following in tango closed position.
Each of the first five weeks introduces a new concept, with the last week practice and review. You can still take this class even if you are going to miss some weeks, because we review everything that you learn previously each week. There is a lot of repetiti ... Gainesville. [posts] - [more]

Dance competition is different than social dancing. In dance competition, you want to be judged. You want to acquire the best technical skills as fast as possible.
Social dancing is different. Social dancing is about having fun. People go social dancing to feel good.
In Yiddish we would say to have naches, which Soojin with her Korean English would say is to “have a good feeling”. In Yiddish we say your grandchildren give you naches, but your children give you tsuris, which means aggravation, grief, suffering, or in Soojin’s English a “bad feeling”.
The two biggest problems in social dancing that give you tsuris and get in the way of having a good feeling are: (1) People pushing and pulling on you, and (2) People telling you what to do.
So, try not to push and pull on anyone and try not to tell anyone what to do.
If someone starts telling you what to do, put your finger over your lip.

This movie is from 1992. I first saw this movie with Ira Weisburd and a group of us from Israeli Dancing at the Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival. The showing got a standing ovation. Enjoy.

In the Beginning Salsa Class you learn the basics of salsa dancing. This is not any particular style of salsa dancing. This is an introduction to the basics of salsa dancing in general. From this class, you could specialize in any type of salsa dancing, if you wanted to go more in depth, or you can use what you have learned to dance salsa when you have the chance.
This is a progressive class starting at the beginning, getting you comfortable dancing with a partner. Each of the first five weeks introduces a new concept, with the last week practice and review. You can still take this class even if you are going to miss some weeks, because we review everything that you learn previously each week. There is a lot of repetition and practice time, so you get to experience dancing.

Someone asked me what speakers to use with a computer for their dance class.
I use an iPod, not a computer. Like to travel light.
Whether you use an mp3 player or computer, you need a powered speaker to which you can directly plug your computer or other device. If you have a powered speaker, you do not need an amplifier.
For sound I used to use a Bose clock radio, which was fine.

A local music store was going out of business and I bought a
Mackie SRM 150 for $200, which is awesome. Everything fits in one bag.

My tango teacher bought this powered speaker, which works great, but is heavier than the Mackie.
